FoodVotes — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 18 June 2026

FoodVotes helps a group decide where to order food together. One person (the “host”) runs a vote from the FoodVotes iOS app; everyone else takes part from their phone browser — no app or account needed. This policy explains what limited data we handle and why.

Data controller: Chris Rose (FoodVotes), United Kingdom. Contact: [email protected].

What we collect

From the host (the iOS app):

From voters (the web page):

We do not collect emails, passwords, contacts, location, or device advertising identifiers, and we do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.

How we use it

Solely to run the voting feature: create a room, collect suggestions, tally votes, show the winner, and let the host manage their votes. We do not sell your data or use it to track you across other apps or websites.

Legal basis (UK/EU GDPR)

We process this minimal data on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing the voting service you are actively using. Providing a display name is your choice.

How long we keep it

Votes and their suggestions, voters, and results are short-lived: a room automatically expires roughly 7 days after it is created, after which its data is removed. You may ask us to delete a room’s data sooner (see “Your rights”).

Ordering links & affiliate disclosure

When a winner is chosen, FoodVotes shows links to third-party food-ordering services (such as Just Eat, Deliveroo, Domino’s and Uber Eats). Some of these are affiliate links, and the developer may earn a small commission if you order through them, at no extra cost to you. When you tap one you leave FoodVotes and that company’s own privacy policy and terms apply to anything you do there. A non-identifying room reference may be attached to the link for commission attribution; it contains no personal data.

Sharing

We don’t share your data with third parties except the infrastructure needed to run the service (our own server and database). Outbound ordering links are described above. We may disclose data if required by law.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of data relating to you, and you may object to our processing. Email [email protected] and we’ll respond. UK users may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

Security

Data is transmitted over HTTPS. The host’s private device key never leaves the device. We keep the data we hold to the minimum needed for the feature to work.

Children

FoodVotes is intended for general audiences (workplaces and groups) and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes we’ll update the date above and post the new version at this URL.
